If you’ve been following my e-newsletter or blog for a while, you’ve heard me share my struggles with anxiety.
I’ve had anxiety as long as I can remember, even though I didn’t have a name for it when I was younger.
I thought everyone felt nervous and felt like an electrical circuit was jolting through them all the time – wasn’t that normal? 🙂 (no, not normal)
In 2006, my anxiety blew out of control, party due to me over-working and the constant stress I felt, both internally and externally.
When conventional medicine and drugs like Lexapro, Buspar, and Doral failed me, I started researching how to heal myself on my own.
Enter my yoga and mindfulness meditation journey. Yes, these helped.
But what I learned through my own quest for healing is what I eat and how I am able to digest significantly influences anxiety and mood.
*** Do you know that over 90% of your serotonin is produced in your intestines? NOT your brain. ***
That’s right. So often people (including me when I was miseducated) blame their mind and their psychology for the anxiety they experience.
If you had the flu, you wouldn’t blame yourself or think something is inherently wrong with you.
I ask you to open up to view anxiety and mood problems as something that can be regulated with the foods you eat and how effectively you digest.
When I had the worse of my anxiety, I would poop loose stools 3x/day. That lasted over 3 years.
I thought I had a fast metabolism. I didn’t know this was totally not normal.
Anxiety is a physical problem…it’s in the body. (And it is multi-faceted…many contributors…not all one thing…I acknowledge that.)
I found the most relief from anxiety from:
- I eat humanely raised, organic animal protein in the morning within one hour of waking. This alone has reduced my experience of anxiety from a consistent 6 to a 2…Every Day! <Nutritionist Trudy Scott taught me this!>
- I take nutritional supplements for anxiety and insomnia (B vitamins, GABA, 5-HTP)
- I eat a 90% whole foods (meaning foods without an ingredient list – non-GMO – real food) diet, almost no processed foods and seldom eat refined sugar or white flour
Little known Angela fact – I haven’t had a can of soda since I was 14. I haven’t had a McDonald’s hamburger in over 20 years. I haven’t even had Chick-fil-A (one of my old faves) since 2009.
I am not deprived. I am free.
Trudy Scott recently hosted an on-line anxiety summit. It is over, but you can still purchase the recordings and information. Click here to learn more.
