She’s a winter runner
with thick thighs
wrapped in performance fleece
steam vapor flying from her
mouth and nose
passing by the patio
with a deflated snowman
hung over the railing
She’s a winter runner
You won’t catch her
in the stores
life moves too fast
and too precious for a
shopping cart
She’s a winter runner
Out of hibernation
because everyone else is inside
the past
chases her from
behind this
time of year
Shedding fall’s
weight
She needs transition
to stand still
So until it does
She’s a winter runner
